Witches Broom Pretzel Sticks are an adorable and easy Halloween snack that bring a savory balance to candy-heavy celebrations. These simple, playful bites are perfect for Halloween parties, classroom events, or a family movie night when you want a festive finger food that isn’t all sugar.

Witches Broom Pretzel Sticks
These Witches Broom Pretzel Sticks are quick to assemble and make a charming addition to any Halloween spread. The combination of mozzarella string cheese and crunchy pretzel sticks keeps them light and savory, while a touch of black licorice adds the finishing detail that turns them into playful broomsticks. Because they are mostly made from everyday ingredients, they’re easy to prep ahead and scale up for larger gatherings.
If you’re trying to offer a mix of sweet and savory options for your Halloween table, these broomstick pretzels are a great choice. They pair especially well with cookies, fruit trays, and other bite-sized snacks for a balanced party platter. They’re easy for kids to help make and safe to serve at school parties where whole candies might be discouraged.
For a festive platter, arrange the broomsticks alongside colorful cookies or cupcakes. Use a large serving board or a themed platter to create an eye-catching display. These also travel well if you need a snack to share at a potluck or neighborhood get-together.
Ingredients
- Mozzarella string cheese sticks (1 package)
- Pretzel sticks (1 bag)
- Black string licorice (or an alternate tying element such as thin chives or green onion if you prefer a non-candy option)
Equipment Needed
- Scissors or a sharp knife for cutting the cheese and licorice
- Optional: a themed Halloween serving platter for display
These broomstick pretzels make a fun and approachable Halloween snack. They require minimal prep, are kid-friendly to assemble, and won’t disappear into a purely sugary pile of treats. Consider offering a few variations—swap the black licorice for thin herb stems to keep the snack entirely savory, or add a small bowl of marinara or ranch for dipping.

Witches Broom Pretzel Sticks
Summary: A quick and whimsical Halloween snack made with string cheese, pretzel sticks, and black licorice. Prep time is about 10 minutes.

Ingredients
- 1 package mozzarella string cheese sticks
- 1 bag pretzel sticks
- Black string licorice (or thin chives/green onion as a savory alternative)
Instructions
- Cut each string cheese stick into four equal pieces. Work on a clean cutting board and use a sharp knife or kitchen scissors for neat, even pieces.
- Insert a pretzel stick into one end of a cheese piece so it resembles a broom handle. Gently push the pretzel in far enough to hold, but not so far that the pretzel breaks the cheese.
- At the opposite end of the cheese (the broom end), use scissors to make six short slits about halfway up the cheese. These slits create the broom bristles. Be careful not to cut all the way through.
- Tie a short piece of black licorice around the cheese just above the slits to secure the bristles and complete the broom look. Trim excess licorice if needed. If using herbs instead of licorice, wrap a thin chive or green onion strip tightly and tuck the ends underneath.
- Arrange finished broomsticks on a platter and serve immediately, or cover and refrigerate for up to a few hours before serving. If storing, add the pretzel sticks just before serving to keep them crisp.
Tips: For a fully savory version, substitute black licorice with a small piece of blanched green onion or chive. For classroom-safe snacks where whole candies are restricted, using herbs gives the same visual effect without added sugar.
