There’s a line people like to say — “do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life” — and for a long time I couldn’t relate to it. Only recently has my life steered me back to where my interests and my work finally align. Now, in my 30s, I’m combining two long-held passions: food and photography, and sharing both through this blog.
Food has been a constant in my life. It’s more than daily sustenance; it’s celebration, comfort, memory, and a way to connect with other cultures. I love styling a dish, finding the right light, and capturing a moment that makes someone want to reach through the screen and taste it. That small ritual of making food look its best has always brought me joy — and, to my surprise, it can also be a meaningful way to make a living.
Why food? For me, it’s the quickest route to curiosity and kindness. The first thing I often do when I encounter a new place or person is try their food. That initial bite can tell you so much: history, geography, family stories. Living in New York City for many years opened my palate and my heart. The city’s neighborhoods introduced me to countless flavors and people, and those experiences continue to inspire the recipes and photos I share here.
This space will feature approachable recipes, seasonal takes on classic dishes, and a fair share of sweets. I have a notorious sweet tooth, so desserts will get lots of attention — but I do love a good savory moment, too. Lately, my kitchen obsessions have been chocolate and tahini. Tahini seems to belong in everything these days, and I’m here for it: cookies, dressings, sauces — tahini elevates so many flavors. Chocolate is a lifelong love; when paired with something nutty or salty, it’s an easy way to make a simple recipe feel indulgent.
I try to keep recipes clear and accessible, with tips that help both beginners and experienced home cooks. My goal is to share dishes that feel doable on a weeknight and special enough for a get-together. On the photography side, I aim for natural, warm images that reflect how the food looks in real life — not overly styled, but thoughtfully presented. Lighting, texture, and small details matter; they’re what make a plate tell a story.
Besides food and photos, I’m partial to small aesthetic pleasures: the rhythm of parentheses, the look of lowercase letters as I type, and the quiet satisfaction of editing a photo until everything feels right. Those little things find their way into my posts in asides and short stories, because personal touches are what make a recipe feel lived-in and a photo feel like a memory.
This blog is a place for flavorful recipes, simple techniques, and honest food photography. Expect a mix of sweets and savories, seasonal menus, and the occasional short essay about the meals that have mattered to me. I’ll keep things approachable and honest — real food for real life — and I hope you’ll find something that inspires you to cook, bake, and photograph your own moments.
Thank you for stopping by. Stay a while, try a recipe, and feel free to come back when you need a new idea for dinner or dessert. More posts, recipes, and photographs are on the way.
All my love, Megs
