These soft, thick, and chewy Cinnamon Bun Cookies are packed with cinnamon chips and finished with a creamy cream cheese frosting. Rich cinnamon aroma and a tender, slightly crisp edge make them irresistible—perfect for fall and holiday baking.
Whether you prefer baking from scratch or using a boxed mix, these cookies deliver that warm, cinnamon-bun flavor everyone loves. You can make them from my homemade Snickerdoodle Cinnamon Chip Cookies recipe, or use a Cinnamon Bun flavored cookie mix and add white chocolate chips for a simple twist. Both versions are delicious—choose the method that fits your schedule.

These cookies disappear fast—every batch I make is gone within hours. The scent of cinnamon baking fills the kitchen and makes it impossible to resist. If you love snickerdoodles or anything cinnamon-forward, these are a must-try.
Two Ways to Make These Cookies
Option 1: Make them from scratch using the Snickerdoodle Cinnamon Chip Cookies recipe below. Option 2: Use a Cinnamon Bun cookie mix and stir in white chocolate chips for extra richness. If you use a mix, follow the box directions for dough preparation and baking, then top with the cream cheese frosting described below.

About the Cookies
These snickerdoodle-style cinnamon chip cookies are easy to make and perfectly sized for snacking. Each cookie is generous—a full quarter-cup scoop of dough—yielding soft, thick cookies with a chewy center and lightly crisp edges. Rolling the dough in cinnamon sugar before baking gives every bite a pleasant crunchy rim that complements the creamy frosting.
If you prefer convenience, buy ready-made cream cheese frosting or vanilla frosting. Homemade frosting, however, is quick and rewarding: it’s silky, tangy, and pairs beautifully with the warm cinnamon notes in the cookie.

Snickerdoodle Cinnamon Chip Cookies
Kim Lange
Prep Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 15 mins Servings: 13 cookies
Ingredients
Snickerdoodle Cinnamon Chip Cookies
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup cinnamon chips (plus extra for tops)
- Cinnamon sugar for rolling
Cream Cheese Frosting
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup butter, room temperature
- 1 cup powdered sugar (add more if needed)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Snickerdoodle Cinnamon Chip Cookies
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until light and fluffy, a couple of minutes.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla until combined.
- Mix in the flour, baking powder, and salt until just combined. The dough should be moist but slightly crumbly—do not overmix.
- Fold in the cinnamon chips gently.
- Scoop dough using a 1/4 cup cookie scoop (for large cookies). For smaller cookies, use a 1.5 or 2 tablespoon scoop.
- Roll each dough ball in cinnamon sugar, then place on a parchment-lined baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake large cookies for 15 minutes; bake smaller cookies for 10–12 minutes. Do not overbake—cookies should remain soft and chewy.
- Let cookies cool on the sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
Cream Cheese Frosting
- Sift the powdered sugar into a bowl. Add the softened cream cheese, butter, and vanilla.
- Using a mixer, beat until the frosting is completely smooth and fluffy. Add more powdered sugar if the frosting is too thin.
- Fill a piping bag fitted with a star or round tip. Start piping from the center of each cookie and spiral outward to create a decorative swirl.
- Optionally dust the finished cookies with a little extra cinnamon for garnish.
Boxed Mix Option

- 1 stick (8 tablespoons) butter, room temperature
