5 Creative Matcha Uses: Drinks, Desserts and More

I’ve been experimenting with Matcha Green Tea in several recipes and wanted to share five delicious ways I use matcha in my kitchen.

If you follow the Trim Healthy Mama lifestyle, these ideas will fit nicely into S-style and low-carb treats when portions are controlled.

I came across a video where the sisters used matcha powder while making pudding, which inspired some of my own experiments.

One of my favorite creations is Chocolate Peanut Butter Wasa Bark. I started with a peanut butter candy base spread over Wasa light rye crackers and froze them until firm.

I made a batch of skinny chocolate and dipped the frozen crackers, returning them to the freezer until the chocolate set. To boost both flavor and nutritional profile, I stirred a bit of Matcha Green Tea powder into the chocolate. Matcha adds a subtle, grassy complexity and a mild caffeine lift while providing antioxidants.

When enjoying these treats on the Trim Healthy Mama plan, watch your portions carefully. A single cracker can be an S meal; two crackers may become a crossover depending on other ingredients. Mindful serving sizes are essential to keeping this snack aligned with your goals.

Tip: Add just a small amount of high-quality Matcha Green Tea Powder to chocolate to enrich flavor without adding sugars.

Beyond the Wasa bark, here are other ways I use matcha:

1) Matcha Fried Ice Cream — I fold matcha into a low-carb ice cream base and then use a quick, crispy coating to create a matcha-flecked fried ice cream dessert that stays sugar-free and gluten-free when prepared with the right substitutes.

2) Creamy Vanilla Custard Shake with Matcha — A simple creamy vanilla custard shake becomes more interesting when a teaspoon of matcha is blended in. The color is beautiful and the taste is delicately earthy, pairing well with vanilla and cream.

3) Bulletproof Matcha — Swap coffee for matcha in a blended bulletproof-style drink. Matcha blends smoothly with butter or coconut oil and a splash of milk or cream to make a sustained-energy beverage without the bitterness of coffee.

4) Matcha Trimachinno — For a coffeehouse-style treat, I substitute matcha for coffee in a Trimachinno-style recipe. It yields a creamy, frothy drink with a bright flavor and less acidity than coffee.

5) Skinny Nut Clusters with Matcha Chocolate — Add matcha to melted chocolate before tossing in nuts and clustering. The result is a unique, lightly green chocolate that works well as a low-sugar snack or dessert garnish.

I also enjoy creating other matcha-infused desserts and drinks, experimenting with balance so that sweetness, cream, and matcha complement each other rather than compete.

Where to find Matcha Green Tea Powder

High-quality matcha can be found in specialty tea shops, health food stores, and many grocery retailers. Look for culinary-grade matcha for baking and blended drinks, and ceremonial-grade matcha for whisked teas and those occasions when you want the purest flavor.

When shopping, choose a matcha that is bright green in color, finely ground, and stored in a sealed container to preserve freshness. A little goes a long way—start with half a teaspoon to a teaspoon per serving and adjust to taste.

If you try any of these matcha ideas, pay attention to portion sizes and ingredient balance to keep them aligned with your nutrition goals. Matcha is versatile and can add flavor, color, and antioxidants to many Trim Healthy Mama-friendly recipes.
